Mental Health Supports for Students and Staff

Over the past few years, we have been expanding our partnerships with community and health providers to assemble an array of services and supports. This is an ongoing process that is driven by changes in funding streams and student/family access to coverage.

Due to income guidelines, many students qualify for Ohio Medicaid (public assistance) which is a major funding stream for our community mental health partners. Many other students rely on their family private health insurance coverage (which can be limited) and then quite a few other students have no health coverage due to immigrant status or other factors.

As a district with a diverse student population, we have to continually assess where mental health access gaps exist and how we can partner to fill these gaps so that we have a comprehensive framework that can adjust to the needs of our students and how those needs shift and distribute across the school buildings.

These are the partnerships in place for the current school year. There will be some changes to increase services for the coming school year where opportunities exist for building space and additional grant funding.

Social-Emotional Wellness Screener Funded by Grants

Access to this risk and resiliency survey is district-wide. Survey administration is orchestrated at the school level (student services, principal(s), and counselor(s)) and can be for targeted grade levels (3rd through 12th) or students with behavioral health concerns at tier 2 or tier 3 as needed. The survey assesses the student's level of risk or resilience (across 13 core indicators) and has lessons/curriculum to target risk areas assessed by the survey.

Student Prevention Programming/Short-Term Counseling Funded by Grants

Access to this service does not require a diagnostic assessment or Ohio Medicaid eligibility. It is meant to  be short-term and solution-focused to target an individual student need or a targeted need that is shared by a group of students. School counselor referral.

Tri-Health Concern For Staff (Employee Assistance Programming)

Access to Employee Assistance Programming includes staff members and their family members. It provides a broad-brush approach to employee assistance by offering counseling, direction, support, and understanding to employees and family members who may be experiencing any number of life problems. A problem-solving action plan is developed with each participant. The goal of this plan is to increase each client's sense of well-being and improve his or her level of performance at work and at home. This is a service that many people access by way of self-referral.
